Elegant Backyard Wedding with Stunning Views

I love planning a backyard wedding! You start with a beautiful open space and so many possibilities. There are no walls or columns or other restrictions to work around and there is something so romantic about dancing under the stars! It was such a pleasure to work with Alyssa & Nathan on their wedding! The day was magical with some threatening skies and light showers that cleared up just in time for the ceremony leaving behind a dramatic blend of clouds and rays of sunshine.

There are a lot of things to take into consideration when planning a backyard wedding. First you want to think about the best way to utilize the space and the ideal orientation for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Rentals, lighting, power requirements, restroom, back of house set up for catering, placement of speakers and/or stage, dance floor, bar set up, etc. Creating a tent of sparkling lights adds a level of romance and intimacy. Speaking of tents, you will want to have one on stand by as a plan B just in case.

It was a pleasure to work with Paperbird Weddings! They captured the wedding beautifully!

I just love creating a styled photo shoot! It's a time when I can let my creative nerd flag fly and I really enjoy geeking out on all the fun details. As with any of my wedding or events it starts with articulating the inspiration and honing in on what it means, what is the feeling and mood, what is the color scheme, what are adjectives that describe the inspiration. For this styled shoot those adjectives were: geometric, a little modern with light and airy defined lines while also romantic and soft with layers of patterns accented with reflective and metallic surfaces. Shades of blue and teal with white and contrasted with copper and gold. I created inspiration boards to reflect the mood and worked closely with Kimberly of Flowerchild to define the overall design and collaborated with an amazing group of talented vendors to bring all the pieces together. And Sadi, of Whimsie Photo, did an amazing job of capturing it all in the most romantic way! She has such a talented way of seeing things and capturing the beauty and the light! The Hilton San Diego was the perfect backdrop for this shoot with the perfect combination of greenery and natural bay views! Please enjoy!

Some of my favorite details:

The stunning gold hexagon ceremony arch by Enticing Tables was completed the night before the shoot. Delicate hanging geometric shapes and floral accents softened the arch and add detail.
